English professional soccer club Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the fourth round (Round of 16) of the League Cup (Carabao Cup) with a hard-fought come-from-behind victory over Coventry City of the Championship (Division Two).

Brennan Johnson's late stoppage-time winner gave Spurs a 2-1 victory in the third round of the 2024-2025 Carabao Cup at the Building Society Arena in Coventry, England, on Monday (Sept. 19).

Son Heung-min came on for Dominic Solanke in the 17th minute of the second half with the score tied at 0-0 and played 30 minutes, but did not register an offensive point.

Son now has two goals in the regular season.

Tottenham, who last won the League Cup in the 2007-2008 season, will be looking to win their first trophy in 17 years.

Starting with a first-team squad of 1.5, Tottenham had a very frustrating first half.

Spurs manager Anzhi Postecoglou made a change in the 18th minute, taking off Wilson Odoher and bringing on Johnson, but the performance remained the same.

Spurs made further changes at the start of the second half, bringing on Jed Spence in the 17th minute and Son Heung-min and James Maddison at the same time, only to concede the lead to Coventry's Brandon Thomas Asante in the 18th minute.

Norman Bassett's cross from the left was met by Tomasante, who finished with his right foot to open the scoring for Spurs.

Facing elimination, Tottenham responded with back-to-back goals from substitutes down the stretch.

In the 43rd minute, Spence tied the game at 1-1 when he ran onto a penetrating pass from Dejan Kulusevski and finished after being knocked down.

In the 47th minute, Johnson completed the comeback when Rodrigo Bentancur's forward pass left him one-on-one with the keeper and he calmly struck a right-footed shot into the top corner.

Tottenham's Round of 16 opponent will be drawn on May 25. 메이저사이트
